Hey Y’all

July 8th, 2008

I’ve got a house full of company and I’m full of sugar, but I wanted to stop in today and say “hi.” There’s nothing better than relaxing with friends–especially when your friends scream at the tops of their lungs during Maury and Jerry Springer as they grip their beer cans.

Life’s been pretty awesome for me lately, and I sincerely hope each of you is enjoying your summer, too.

A new month

July 7th, 2008

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th. My day was pretty good, I had a good time with a friend. I am sorry however that I don’t have anything else to share. The rest of my weekend was…shall we say very difficult, so I had to force myself out of bed to write this. Anyway…I hope y’all’s week is wonderful, full of good books and better friends.

Happy reading,

Happy 4th of July

It’s a reality world revisited and bring on the drama/comedy

July 3rd, 2008

Well from what I have been seeing there will be even more Reality shows coming this summer. Now I have freely admitted I love certain reality shows myself. Like So you think you can dance and Amazing Race to name a few but this mass influx is having me boggled.

At least I did see that there are some regular drama, comedy or such shows coming on. My old fav’s like Army Wives, The Closer, Psychic, Monk and Criminal Intent have started or are staring soon. So I have my reality, drama, comedy or such shows coming on. Summer fun commences.

Being Bad Is Better…

July 1st, 2008

I’ve not had a cigarette or a cup of coffee since Friday, so I’m not at my best. Life is so funny. Last year I was a writing demon, and had plenty to sell. This year, a couple of my editors are actively courting me, but I’ve decided to give up my writing fuel (caffeine, nicotine, and other assorted carcinogens) so I’ve not much to submit.

But life is still good.

Tomorrow, on July 2, 2008, Bad Bettie debuts at Wild Rose Press. Be sure to check it out. It’s sexy, funny, heartwarming, and a story of its time (1948). I’m truly proud of this story, and the ones that will follow, because I’ve been having a love affair with this time period. Also, as one of TWRP’s only multicultural authors (one of my buddies SWEARS I might even be the first) I’m tickled that my bad, beautiful blues singer will help usher in love of a different flavor to the small, but growing press.

Another week

June 30th, 2008

Wow, I forgot that it was Monday. I’ve so scatterbrained lately it’s sad. I had a great weekend, my house guest is a Sci Fi junkie like I am so we sat around and watched the movies, breaking to walk the dogs and stuff our faces. Other than that, not much going on here. Just writing, trying to catch up on my work and what not. I hope y’all have a great week and a safe and wonderfully fun 4th of July.

Emotion of Writing - Revisited

June 27th, 2008

Had another interesting discussion the other day. The same as before it was more of a debate. It was concerning a book a mutual friend and I had both read. She loved it and I didn’t.

That led to a long debate of us both listing out points and countering why we liked or disliked the book. We got loud and emotionally about our point of view. I love a great debate on the merits of a book. Gets the blood pumping. Of course others around us joined in. And it lead to other discussion of various author’s work we liked, did not like, the reasons why or why not. It was a very reveling conversation.

Again I was given an example of the emotion of writing. As I said many time to various people. No matter if your book is not liked or liked. It has created an emotion. As an author this is what I want to do. Whether it is good or bad. I want you to feel it. The one thing I do not want is apathy. That is like a punch to any writer. Please NO APATHY. Give me any emotion and I will feel that I have done my job.

Now I am not saying if I get a bad review or email that a reader didn’t like my work I won’t get a little upset at first. But when it comes down to it I will be content and happy. I created a reaction.

An Emotion.

I touched the reader in someway. From that little debate I had the other day. I realized that people will remember you if they have enough emotion whether good or bad. I got a few new authors to try just from that conversation alone. Hey just because someone didn’t like a book doesn’t mean what they saw as flaws I or another reader wouldn’t see as treasures.

Come on and share the books you have read and created strong emotion. Don’t be shy it can be good or bad.

The Fam

June 26th, 2008

My sister and nephew are coming for a visit. Her hubby can’t make it this year. They are coming for the summer. I am excited. I haven’t seen then in a year. I talk with them almost everyday but it isn’t the same as actually seeing them. So I’ll preparing for them and am so excited. Me and my sis can have a gag session to catch up. I love when they come and visit. We chat, cook, laugh, and hang out. And most importantly we shop.

Summer

June 23rd, 2008

It’s definetly here. Roses in full bloom, hot, humid, kids up all hours of the night being obnoxious. Overall, I’m glad. I like being able to take a walk later in the evening and not wish for a flashlight just to make it back home. Of course with summer comes my desire to lose weight, so…more walking, running, etc. Unfortunately I don’t seem to have time for everything I have planned. (Still waiting for those clones of me to come help out) Regardless, I’m increasing my walking to at least 5 miles a day more if the weather doesn’t melt me into the pavement the second I get out there.

I am getting a guest at the house today so after work, I have to come home and clean again, because I am like that. And he’s like family so it really shouldn’t matter, but it does. He’ll be here for about a month or so.

And of course, I’m happy that I’ll be having some releases this summer as well, starting next month.

I hope everyone has a great week. And I’ll be back the last day of this ever-vanishing month.

Happy reading,
~Aliyah
